50 Gi Glock Vs 10mm - The title sounds like a crazy rave of ignorant prohibition, but the Glocks caliber .50 is a reality. Guncrafter Industries makes conversion slides for G21 and G41 to take their 50GI cartridge. The slides are the budget choice aside from the last $4000 long slide 1911, the Model 4. At $595 to $660, this gets a shooter into a 50GI caliber at a relatively lower price than the 1911 route.
Holding ten rounds in the slightly extended magazine or nine rounds in a flush fit head, this conversion gives up some capacity for more punch per shot. The theory behind this round is simple: why spend part of the kinetic energy to expand a missile, when it can be launched already pre-expanded?

50GI is a low pressure caliber similar to the classic .455 Webley. At the same pressure as a 45ACP, it is easy on the shooter and delivers follow-up shots so quickly, something not seen with a 50AE or 50S&W. The nominal range of expanding ammo is 185gr at 1200fps to 275gr at 875fps, and 300gr JSP is available for practice and for punching through tough wildlife. At 700fps, the 300gr load is on the same power level as a 44 Special – a light easy shooting that works well for quick second and third hits if needed. All the enlarged bullets are optimized for thin-skinned human enemies, where the 230 grain makes holes a foot deep and nearly an inch wide. Light stops for the standard 185gr at 9″ but makes an even wider path. Actual velocities chronographed were very close to 4.5″ barrels and higher than typical 5″-6″ tubes.

All copper castings are quite efficient in converting velocity into expansion without splitting or folding the petals back on themselves. All the loads I tried (185, 230, 275 and 300) had minimal muzzle flash.
As you can see, the rim allows for a 45ACP size discount from breechface. The magazines are easy to load with a straight finger. Depending on the load, the amount of muzzle movement was minimal or negligible, certainly on par with the 45ACP experience. Because 50GI ammunition is expensive, it is expected that shooters primarily train to handle 45ACP cartridges and carry 50GI cartridges. Given the similarities between the shooting experiences between the two standards and the excellent reliability of the conversions, this is a valid approach. Unlike the more energetic cartridges, such as 10mm Auto and 44Mag, 50GI does not wear out the trained shooter and is relatively close to unprotected hearing in subsonic loads.
Compared to stock Glock magazines, the conversion gives up quite a bit of capacity, from 13+1 to 8+1. Each bullet gains about 22% initial distance, before and after expansion. The compromise is up to you. Is it worth getting nine stronger hits before reloading, or five more hits before needing the taunt switch?

The .50 GI has developed a reputation for accuracy, although this may be due to the high accuracy of the semi-custom and very expensive Guncrafter pistols themselves. In one test, the 300-grain (19 g) jacketed flat point (JFP) gave a 25-yard group of 2.24 inches, while the 300-grain Jacketed hollow point (JHP) and 275-grain JHP gave a 25-yard group. from 2.14. an inch
The petering in gelatin (but not necessarily the kinetic energy) of the .50 GI is significantly different than the .45 ACP.
Although it is one of the few examples of the largest caliber projectile legally allowed (.50) in a semi-automatic pistol, it was specially constructed to have much less recoil impulse and kinetic energy than the caliber rounds. .50 magnum such as the .50 Action Express (semi-automatic) or .500 S&W Magnum (revolver). Factory ammunition has a kinetic energy of about 500 ft·lb.
The dye is not used in law enforcement and is rarely used for personal defense due to the limited availability of ammunition and firearms in the dye's chamber.
